Treasurer of Australian Slovaks' Association in Victoria

Viera kovalskyI was born on the 4th of January 1949 in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Upon completing my studies in Bratislava I worked for a short time as Chemist laboratory assistant for PALMA producers of cooking oil. ln 1969 I escaped Slovakia with my now husband Vladimir, to be married in Vienna and subsequently immigrate to Johannesburg, South Africa. During our 9 and a half years in South Africa I worked as a Data entry operator as well as a part time Ice-skating teacher.

In 1978 after the Soweto uprising during apartheid in South Africa we made the decision to immigrate to Australia, we settled in Melbourne and in 1986 our beautiful daughter Karen was born.

I have been a loyal employee of Retravision administration office for the last 25 years as an Electronic data processing supervisor. In the early 1980's I was involved with the local Slovak community through a folk dancing and singing group as well as assisting to teach in a Slovak language school. My official involvement with the Slovak community commenced in 2008 when I was elected treasurer by the Australian Slovaks' Association in Victoria.

Recently l have also been able to explore my artistic talents by being involved in the Slovak Theatre Amateur Group. (STAG)

I have a certificate in flower arranging and enjoy doing this as a hobby as well as walking, reading, gardening, cooking and involvement in my local church community.
